Before you get started setting up your Fire TV Stick, you'll need to make sure you have an Amazon account. If you don't have one, you'll need to set one up - Fire TV doesn't work without one.

It's quick and easy to do, just go to the Amazon Registration page and fill in your details - it only takes a few minutes.

The remote controls everything on your Fire TV Stick - here's what all the buttons do.

Setting it up

Here's how to get your Fire TV Stick set up.

Plug your Fire TV Stick into one of the HDMI ports on the back of your TV.

Plug the small end of the USB cable into the side of the Fire TV Stick, and connect the other end to the plug.

If your TV has a USB port, you can use this to power your Fire TV Stick, instead of plugging it into a power socket.

The first screen you'll see is the Fire TV logo, just press the Play/Pause button on the remote.

Choose your language - you can scroll up and down using the circular 'navigation' button on the remote, and pick a language by pressing the middle 'select' button.

Press the Select button on the network you'd like to connect to.

Enter your Wi-Fi password using the navigation buttons on the remote, then choose Connect.

When it's connected to your network, your Fire TV Stick will download and install the latest software - this can take a few minutes.

If you already have an Amazon account, choose Register. If you haven't set one up yet, choose Create an Account and follow the steps to set one up.

Enter your Amazon Login ID and choose Next.

Enter your Password and choose Sign In.

Choose Yes, continue as...

You'll see a message telling you that your Wi-Fi passwords will be saved to Amazon, choose Yes to continue.

You can add parental controls to your Fire TV Stick if you want, this lets you add a 4 digit pin number which will be needed for making purchases.

To skip this, choose No Parental Controls.

You'll see a short video telling you how to use your remote and giving you information about other Amazon services. When it's finished, tap Continue.

You can choose a few apps to get started with by selecting Choose Apps.

When you've chosen the apps you want to start with, press the Play/Pause button on the remote, then choose Download Apps.

That's your Fire TV Stick set up. The Home page lets you browse the most popular apps, movies, TV shows, and games. Next, we'll show you how to download new apps.

Downloading new apps

Most apps are free but before you can download any, you'll need to have added payment details to your Amazon account. This is because some come with in-app purchases. The easiest way to download new apps is using the Alexa Voice Remote. Here's how it's done.

To search for an app, film, or TV show, just hold down the Voice button on the remote and say what you're looking for.

When your Fire TV Stick has found the app you want, just choose Get to download it.

Hopefully, that's helped you get started with your Fire TV Stick, but if you'd like help with anything else, you can contact one of our Team Knowhow Experts here.
