Kit Guide: Sony Xperia XA1 - using it

Figuring out where stuff is on a new phone can be confusing, so this guide will help you get used to the basics.

 

Making phone calls

One of the things you'll use your phone for is calls, so these steps will help you out with making them.

Open the Phone app from the Home screen (it's the blue phone in the lower-left corner).

2.

You can press the People icon at the top to have a look through your contacts.

3.

Press the blue keypad to open the dialler. There, you can type in a number and press the green phone to make a call.

Sending texts & multimedia messages (MMS)

Texting is a quick way to send messages to people. This is how you do it.

Open the Messaging app from the Home screen, then tap the pen icon in the bottom-right corner (the messaging icon looks like a pair of speech bubbles).

Put the name or mobile number in the box at the top.

3.

Type your text in the Write message box, then when you've finished, press the right arrow to send.

Sending attachments & multimedia messages (MMS)

Adding pictures, videos and other stuff to your texts turns them into MMS messages. These are chargeable, and you'd need to check with your network about costs.

Write your text message as normal, then press one of the icons under the message box.

Tap the three dots if you want more options.

Choose an item to add, and tap it.

4.

You'll see a preview of it on your message. When you're happy with it, press the right arrow and send it.

Deleting a message thread

A list of messages between you and someone else is called a message thread. To delete a full one, open your Inbox and press and hold on the one you're deleting. When it's got a tick next to it, tap the bin icon at the top to get rid of it.

Open your Inbox, then press the pen icon in the lower-right corner.

Write the persons name or email address in the 'To' box.

3.

You can add a Subject to the 'Subject' box if you want.

4.

Type your email in the box that's left, then when you've finished, press the right-arrow.

Write out your email, then tap the paperclip.

Choose where you want to add the item from.

Tap the ones you want to attach.

4.

You'll see a preview of it on your email now. Press the right arrow when you're ready to send it.

Setting alarms

You can use your phone as an alarm clock as well, making things a bit more convenient. Here's how to set one.

Go to Apps > Clock, then tap the + in the bottom-right corner.

2.

Tap Time to decide when you want the alarm to sound.

3.

Drag the circle around to the hour you want to set.

4.

Do the same for the minutes, then tap OK.
