Kit Guide: moving contacts from or to your Huawei phone

If you need to move your contacts across to your new Huawei phone, you've got a few different options. In this guide, we'll go through the different ways you can get your data across from your old phone to your new one.

Importing contacts from an Android phone

There's more than one way to move contacts from an Android phone, this part of the guide will show you the different ways it can be done.

Moving contacts with Huawei's Phone Clone app

Newer Huawei phones have an app called 'Phone Clone' that makes it quick and easy to move contacts and other bits from an old phone to your new one.

Open Settings from the Home screen.

2.

Tap Advanced Settings Data transmission.

3.

Tap From old phone (with Phone Clone), then choose Android device, and press Continue.

4.

Keep your new phone on this screen, and download the Clone Phone app onto your old phone from the Play Store.

Once it's downloaded, open the Phone Clone app, and press Send.

Your camera will open - point it at the screen you left open on the new phone and they will pair. You'll also see instructions for connecting with Wi-Fi if you can't get them to pair.

7.

Once they're paired, tick the boxes for all the things you want to send from the old phone to the new one, and press Send.

8.

When everything's moved over, tap Finish.

Moving contacts with your Google account

 

The easiest way to move contacts from your old phone is by using your Google account. Google accounts sync from device to device, so if you use the same Google account on your Huawei as you've got on your old phone, it will bring your contacts across.

If you haven't set up Google contact sync on your old phone, go through these steps.

Open the Contacts app from your Home screen.

2.

Tap More or Menu, then you might need to press Settings.

3.

Tap Move or copy device contacts to, then tap Google account. On some phones you might need to go to the Import/Export menu.

If you've got more than one Google account, tap the one you want to move the contacts too.

If your phone doesn't have the option to move your contacts to a Google account, your best option will be to use your memory card (or SIM).

Importing contacts from an iPhone

Here are the different ways you can transfer contacts from an iPhone.

Once it's downloaded, open the Phone Clone app, and press Send.

You'll need to connect your iPhone to the Wi-Fi network your Huawei phone is sending out. Make a note of the Wi-Fi name, and password.

7.

On your iPhone, go to Settings Wi-Fi, then tap the Wi-Fi network being sent out by the Huawei, and type the password and press Join.

8.

Once they're paired, tick the boxes for all the things you want to send from the old phone to the new one, and press Send. When it's done, tap Finish.

Moving contacts using your Google account

 

If you can't use the Clone Phone app, you can try moving contacts from your Google account to your iCloud account.

1.

On your iPhone, open Settings from the Home screen.

2.

Tap your name at the top, or sign in with your Apple ID and password.

3.

Sign in with your Apple ID.

4.

Tap on iCloud, and make sure the switch next to 'Contacts' is green. Tap if it's turned off, then tap Merge to make sure all your contacts are being saved to iCloud.

These next steps need to be done with a computer (an iPad or tablet won't work), and will download your contacts to it.

Go to the iCloud website on your computer, and sign in with your Apple ID and password.

6.

Click Contacts, and you should see all the contacts from your iPhone.

7.

Click the settings cog in the bottom-left corner, then click Select All.

8.

Click the cog again, and then click Export vCard.

9.

Your contacts will download to your computer as a '.vcf' file. It'll go into your downloads folder, but double check when it downloads.

Once the file is downloaded, follow these steps to add the contacts to your Google account.

Open the Google contacts page on your computer.

11.

Log in with the Google email address and password you've signed into on your Huawei.

12.

On the Google contacts page, click More, and click Import from the drop down menu.

13.

Click the Choose File button, and find the .vcf file downloaded in step 9.

14.

Click Import, and the contacts from your iPhone will be added to your Google account.

With that done, they'll start syncing to your Huawei phone in just a few minutes.

Moving contacts from a BlackBerry

To get contacts from a BlackBerry, you'll need to install the BlackBerry Desktop Software to your computer, and you'll need a USB cable to connect it. Once you've installed the software, go through these steps.

Connect your BlackBerry to your computer using the USB cable, then open the BlackBerry Desktop Software and wait for your phone to show up.

2.

Click Organiser on the left, then tick the Contacts box and click one way to your computer only.

3.

Under Contacts, click Windows contacts, then click OK.

4.

Click the Sync Organiser button in the bottom right-hand corner to copy your contacts to your Windows address book.

The contacts are now in your Windows address book, and you'll need to 'export' them into one file.

5.

Open your Start menu, then click Contacts.

6.

Click Organise in the top-left, then Select all to highlight all the contacts.

7.

Click Export on the top menu bar, choose CSV, then click Export.

8.

Click Browse, and choose where to save the file. It's best to save it somewhere easy to find, like your Desktop or Downloads folder. Name the file 'Contacts', then click Save.

Once you've exported the contacts, follow these steps to add them to your Google account.

Open the Google contacts page on your computer.

Log in with the Google email address and password you've signed into on your Huawei.

11.

On the Google contacts page, click More, and click Import from the drop down menu.

12.

Click the Choose File button, and find the .vcf file saved in step 10.

13.

Click Import, and the contacts from your iPhone will be added to your Google account.

Once that's done, your phone will start downloading all your contacts.

Moving contacts from a Windows phone

To get contacts off your Windows Phone, you'll need to do it through a computer.

On your computer, open then Outlook.com People and sign in with the Microsoft account and password you use on your Windows Phone.

2.

Click Manage at the top of the page, and choose Export for Outlook.com and other services. Your contacts will download as a .csv file, and will normally go into to your Downloads folder.

With them saved, you'll need to get them added to your Google account.

Open the Google contacts page on your computer and log in with the Google email address and password you've signed into on your Huawei.

4.

On the Google contacts page, click More, and click Import from the drop down menu.

Click the Choose File button, and find the .vcf file downloaded in step 9.

Click Import, and the contacts from your iPhone will be added to your Google account.

Once it's done, your phone will start downloading all your contacts.

Moving contacts using a SIM or memory card

You can use your SIM or a memory card to move contacts. A memory card is normally better, as it can save things like email addresses as well as names and numbers.

 

Exporting contacts to a SIM or memory card

The first step is to move all the contacts from your old phone to your SIM or memory card.

Open the Contacts app from the Home screen.

2.

Tap Menu or More, then tap Settings.

Tap Export.

Choose whether you want to save them to the SIM or SD (memory) card.

You might need to select the contacts to export - if you do, just press Select all, then tap Confirm.

After your contacts have been exported, move the SIM or memory card into your new phone, and follow the steps below to import them.

Importing contacts from a SIM or memory card

From the Home screen, go to Contacts > menu > Import/Export.

2.

Choose where to copy the contracts from - SIM or memory card.

3.

If it asks you which contacts to import, just press Select all, then tap OK.

4.

Choose where to copy the contacts to. It's best to save them to your Google account so they are backed up.

All your contacts will now be on your new phone.

Manually adding a contact

Open Contacts from the Home screen, then tap + New Contact at the bottom.

2.

Choose where to save your next contact. We recommend saving it to the Google account, so it's backed up.

3.

Fill out the info for the contact, you can add as much or as little as you need.

4.

Tap the tick in the top-right to save them.
