Kit Guide: Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge - using it

We've written this super-helpful guide to make sure you're familiar with using the basic features of the S7 Edge.

 

Making phone calls

Making phone calls is one of the main functions of your phone, these steps will help you to do it.

Open the phone app by pressing Apps > Phone. The icon looks like a green box with a white phone in it.

The app will open to the dialler screen where you can type a mobile number. Press the green phone at the bottom to make the call.

You can also hide the keypad and search through your contacts instead. Press the Hide icon in the bottom-right corner, and then press Contacts at the top.

4.

Scroll through the contacts, tap the one you want, then press the green phone to call them.

Sending texts & multimedia messages (MMS)

Another thing you might do a lot with your phone is send text messages, so we've written these steps in case you need some help with it.

Sending texts

The 'messaging app' is on the Home screen and looks like a yellow box with a white envelope inside it. If you've got any unread messages, you'll see a small red badge in the top right-hand corner of it. Press the messaging icon to open the app.

The app will open to your inbox, where you'll see any text messages you already have. To write a new text, press Compose. It's the icon in the bottom-right corner and looks like a pen and paper in an orange circle.

Tap the box that says Enter recipients and you'll be able to start typing someone's name, or just type a mobile number.

You can add more than one person to the same message if you need to.

 

4.

Press the Enter message box to start writing your text. When you've finished, press the yellow Send button.

You can add pictures, videos or other documents to a text too. Press the paperclip on the left of the text box and you'll see your recent pictures and some other options at the bottom.

You can take a new picture by pressing Camera, or find other items in your phone by pressing Other.

Tap the file you want, and then press Done to add it to the text.

 

4.

You'll see a preview of what you've added above your message. When you're finished, press the yellow Send button.

 

Deleting a message thread

In your inbox is a list of the conversations you've had with people over text message. These are known as message 'threads'. To delete a full conversation, press and hold on the one you want to get rid of and a tickbox will appear. Press Delete in the top right-hand corner and it'll be gone.

 

Sending emails

Sending an email

Go to your inbox by pressing Apps > Email or Gmail (whichever you use for your emails). To write a new email, press Compose (it's the icon in the bottom-right that looks like a pen and paper in an orange circle).

Press the box with To in it, and type in the person's email address. Any matches will come up as you type.

 

3.

Give your email a subject by pressing the Subject line and typing one in.

 

4.

Now you can start writing your message. Tap the box under the subject line and type your email. If it's just that you want to send, press Send at the top of the screen.

To add a picture, video, or other files to your email, press Attach at the top. You'll need to Allow the phone to use your photos and other files, otherwise you can't add them to your email.

You'll then be shown your Gallery, where you can choose one of your pictures. Use the tabs at the bottom to pick a different item.

 

3.

Tap the file or picture you want to add and it'll get a tick next to it. When you've finished choosing, press Done.

 

4.

You'll see a preview of what you've added just under your message. When you've finished adding things, press Send.

Setting alarms

Alarms are found in the Clock app. Press Apps > Clock.

Swipe the numbers up and down to set the alarm time you want.

Choose the days you want the alarm to sound by pressing the letters under 'Repeat'.

Press Options to customise your alarm.

Change the alarm volume by moving the slider, and press Sound to choose a tone.

When you're happy with your alarm, press Save.
