Kit Guide: Using a Samsung Galaxy S5

Making phone calls

These steps show you how to make a phone call from the Galaxy S5.

Making a phone call

  • From the Home screen, tap the Phone icon.
  • Choose who to call by either:
    Pressing the keypad icon and entering the number.
    Searching you contacts by tapping the icon at the top of the screen.
    Typing the name of a contact using the number keys (the same way you would if you were sending a text from non-touchscreen phone).
  • With your number or contact onscreen, tap the green phone icon to start the call.

Sending texts & multimedia messages (MMS)

This part of the guide takes you through sending normal and multimedia text messages.

Sending texts

1.

From your Home screen, tap the Messaging icon (it's the white speech bubble with the smiley face).

2.

Tap the pen & paper icon at the top of the screen to open a new message.

3.

Choose who to send the message to by tapping the Enter recipient box.

4.

Either enter a mobile number, or start typing the name of a contact and tap the box when their details appear.

5.

Tap inside the Enter message box and type your message.

6.

Press the orange button to send it.

Sending attachments & multimedia messages (MMS)

To add an attachment, follow the steps above to number five (don't send the message yet).

2.

Tap the paper clip.

3.

Press the icon that matches the type of file you want to attach.

4.

Find the correct file, tap it and press Done.

Deleting a message thread

In the messaging inbox, press and hold on the name of the contact whose messages you want to delete. When a tickbox appears beside it, press the bin icon to delete it.

Sending emails

Open the Email app by pressing the envelope icon.

2.

Tap the pen & paper icon in the bottom left corner to open a new email.

3.

Pres the To line. Choose who to send the email to by either typing their email address, or by typing their name and tapping their detail when the box pops up.

4.

Enter a subject/title into the box.

5.

Tap into the blank area and type your message.

6.

To send the email as it is, tap the envelope icon in the title bar.

Follow the steps above to number five (don't send the email yet).

2.

Tap the paper clip in the title bar.

3.

Choose the type of attachment you want to add.

4.

Find the file and tap to select it. Press Done to add it into your email.

5.

Add more attachments or text, then press the envelope to send it.

Setting alarms

You can use the Galaxy S5 to wake you up the morning using the Alarms feature.

Open the Apps list then press the Clock.

2.

The tabs across the screen switch between the Alarm, World Clock, Stopwatch, and Timer functions respectively. Alarms will probably already be selected, but if it's not, press it.

3.

Tap the to create a new alarm.

4.

Set the alarm time using the arrows.

The Repeat option allows you to set the alarm to go off on specific days, such as every weekday. When you're happy, tap Save.

6.

The alarm icon will light up to show that it's active. An alarm clock icon will appear in the status bar at the very top of the screen too.

Using the Dual Camera

Dual Camera is a feature that takes a photo using the front and rear cameras at the same time and merges them together into a single image.

1.

Open the camera app.

2.

Tap the Mode button.

3.

Choose Dual Camera from the list.

4.

Change how the selfie camera is integrated into the main image by pressing the arrow at the bottom of the screen.

5.

Take the picture as usual.

Using SHealth

SHealth is an exclusive Samsung fitness app that allows you to monitor your calorie intake, progress, and set goals.

1.

Open the Apps menu.

2.

Tap the SHealth icon.

3.

When the app opens, tap Next.

4.

Agree to the Terms & Conditions to proceed, tick the I agree box, followed by Next.

5.

Sign in with your Samsung account if you have one. Otherwise, tap Skip.

6.

Fill in the form accurately, as the information added here is used as your starting point in your fitness journey. Tap Next.

7.

Enter a few more details and tap Next.

8.

Choose your activity level, then tap Next.

9.

Press Start to get begin.
