Kit Guide: Samsung J5 2016 - using it

We've written this guide to help you get a bit more familiar with your Samsung J5 2016. We'll show you some of the basics, from making phone calls to settings alarms.

 

1. Making phone calls

Press the green phone icon on the Home screen to open the dial pad.

 

2.

Here you can type a number, then press the green phone at the bottom to make the call. Press Hide to see the other options.

 

3.

With the dial pad hidden you'll see 'Log', 'Favourites' and 'Contacts' tabs at the top. Mark a contact as a favourite contact by tapping the star when you've got their information on the screen.

 

4.

Press Contacts to search through the people you've got saved in your phone. Tap a name and then the green phone to call them.

2. Sending texts & multimedia messages (MMS)

Sometimes sending a short message is more convenient than making a phone call, so find out how to send texts with the steps below.

On the Home screen, press Messages (it's a yellow box with a white envelope in it).

 

2.

To write a new text, press the pen and paper icon in the bottom-right corner.

 

3.

Tap the To box and start typing a name or a number. Tap the contact you'd like to add.

 

4.

Write your text in the Enter message box and then when you're finished, press Send.

 

Sending attachments & multimedia messages (MMS)

You can add pictures, videos and other things to your messages, but you might be charged for it. Check with your mobile network about costs so you don't end up with an unexpected bill.

Add a picture, video or other file to your message by pressing the paperclip on the left of the text box.

 

2.

You can look through your files with the 'Gallery' and 'Other' tabs at the bottom, or take a new picture by pressing Camera.

 

3.

Tap the items you want to add and a tick will appear in the top-left corner. Press Done in the top-right corner when you've ticked everything you want.

 

4.

Add more if you want, then when you're ready, press Send.

 

Deleting a message thread

A message 'thread' is all the texts between you and someone else. To delete a full thread of messages, open your inbox.

Find the thread you want to delete, then press and hold it. Tap delete in the top-right corner.

 

3. Sending emails

To start sending emails, you'll need to have the email account set up on your J5 2016. If you haven't done it yet and want some help, our Setup Guide will talk you through it.

Open the email inbox by pressing Apps > Email or Gmail (depending which one you've set up).

 

2.

Press the pen and paper icon to start writing a new email.

 

3.

Type a name or an email address in the 'To' box and a subject for the email in the Subject box.

 

4.

Tap the space under the subject box and write your email. When you're finished, press Send.

Go to the alarms by pressing Apps > Clock. If you've not used it before, no alarms will be set. Press Add to set a new one.
