Kit Guide: Moto X Force - Using it

This guide will take you through using the core features of your phone, like making phone calls and sending texts.

 

1. Making phone calls

Phone calls are made using the Phone app, which is found in the bottom-left corner of your Home screen.

  • When the app opens, it will show your favourite contacts.
  • Tap the blue keypad button at the bottom to open the dialer. Dial a number, and then press the green phone icon at the bottom to call them.

  • The middle tab at the top is Recents, which will show you any recently made, received or missed calls.
  • The Contacts tab on the right will show you a list of all the numbers saved to your phone.

2. Sending texts & multimedia messages (MMS)

Sending texts and attachments is done using the Messaging app.

Open the Messaging app from the Home screen.

Tap the new message button in the top right, or tap a person's name to reply to them.

 

3.

If you're writing a new message, tap the To box and start typing a person's name or number. Suggestions might appear as you type - tap one to choose them.

 

4.

Type your message at the bottom, and then press the arrow on the right to send the text.

 

Sending attachments & multimedia messages (MMS)

Folow steps 1-3 above to get your message ready, then follow these steps to add an attachment.

Tap the paperclip in the top right corner.

 

2.

Choose the type of item you want to attach.

 

3.

Go through your phone and find the item you want to send. Tap it to add it to your message.

 

4.

Tap the arrow to send the message with the attachment.

 

Deleting a message thread

A 'message thread' is all the messages sent between you and a contact. If you want to delete a thread, follow these steps.

  1. Open the Messaging app.
  2. Press and hold on a message thread, until a tick shows next to it. You can tick others if you want to delete more than one thread.
  3. Press the bin icon to delete the messages.

 

3. Sending emails

To send an email, you'll have to have set up your email account.

Open the Gmail app from the Home screen.

 

2.

Tap the new message icon in the bottom-right corner.

Tap the To box, and type a person's name or email address. Suggestions from your contacts might show as you type - tap one to add them to the To box.

 

4.

Type a Subject.

 

5.

Type your message into the box at the bottom.

 

6.

Tap the arrow in the top right to send your email.

 

Adding an attachment

Follow steps 1-5 above to get your email ready, and then follow these steps to add an attachment.

Tap the paperclip in the top-right corner, then tap Attach file.

 

2.

Go through your phone and find the item you want to attach.

 

3.

Tap on the item you want to send to attach it to your email.

 

4.

Tap the arrow to send the email with the attachment.

4. Setting alarms

Alarms are set and changed using the Clock app, which you can find on your Home screen.

Open the Clock app from the Home screen and tap the Alarm tab at the top.

Press the button at the bottom of the screen.

 

3.

Choose the time you want the alarm to go off.

 

4.

Tap OK to save the time.

 

You can change some of the other settings too, like:

  • Repeat: change the days you want the alarm to go off.
  • Sound: change the sound the alarm makes.
  • Vibrate: tick this to have the phone vibrate as well as make sound.
  • Label: give the alarm a name, like 'Work' or 'School'

 

5. Tips

Once you've got the hang of the basics, read though these tips to help you get a bit more from your phone.

 

OK Google

OK Google is Google's voice recognition service, which can help you to find and do things quicker. Just say "OK Google", and your phone will start listening to you. You can ask questions, add calendar events, reply to messages and much more.

 

Moto Assist

Moto Assist is another digital assistant that uses your phone's location, the time, and other information to manage your notifications.

From the Home screen, tap Apps, then tap Moto Assist.

 

2.

Tap Next.

 

3.

Read through the intro page, and then press Yes, I'm in to start Moto Assist.

 

4.

To let Moto Assist collect more data to improve the service, tap Yes, I'm In, or No, Maybe Later to skip this.

Moto Assist will need to link with your Google account. Tap OK to continue.

 

6.

Have a read through what Moto Assist can do, and tap Got it.

 

7.

You can start to use Moto Assist.
