Kit Guide: Microsoft Lumia 950 XL - using it

This guide has been written for you to get some help with using your phone, from making calls to setting an alarm.

1. Making phone calls

An important part of owning a phone is making calls - so here's some steps to help.

  1. Press the Phone icon on the Home screen (it looks like a white phone).
  2. You'll be taken to the 'Dial pad' where you can type in a mobile number if you know it.
  3. To ring the number, press Call at the bottom.

2. Sending texts & multimedia messages (MMS)

Sometimes we don't have the time to make a phone call and just need to send a quick message, so these steps will help you do it.

Open the messaging app by pressing the Messages icon (it looks like a speech bubble with a smiley face in it).

2.

The first time you open it, you'll see some information about Skype managing your messages. To do this, press Continue and follow the instructions, otherwise press Do this later.

3.

When you get to your inbox, press the at the bottom.

4.

Tap the To box at the top and type in a mobile number or a contact's name. Tap the matching contact you want to text.

5.

Tap the Type a message box and write your message. Press the blue arrow on the right to send.

To add a picture, video or other file to your message, press the paperclip on the left of the text box.

2.

Choose the type of file you want by tapping one of the options.

3.

When you've chosen an item, you'll be able to see it above the text box in the message. Press the blue arrow to send it.

Sending attachments by text message uses mobile data and it could cost you money. Check with your network about charges.

 

Deleting a message thread

 

A 'thread' of messages is all the texts between you and another person. If you want to delete a full thread, just press and hold on the conversation you want to get rid of in your inbox, and then tap Delete in the menu that appears.

Sending an email

To send an email, you'll need to have your email account set up already on the phone. If you haven't done that yet, our Setup Guide will help.

Open your inbox by pressing Outlook Mail on the Home screen.

2.

Your emails will show here. To write a new one, press the + at the bottom.

3.

Tap the To box and type in an email address. Any matching contacts will appear and you can tap them to add them. Add a subject to the email by tapping the Subject box.

4.

To write your email, press the white box under the subject box. Once you're finished, press the arrow on the bottom right to send.

Adding an attachment

1.

You can add a picture, video or other file to the email as well. Write your email as normal, then tap the paperclip at the bottom of the screen.

2.

Look through your files by pressing Insert to find the one you want. When you've picked, it'll show in the message box.

3.

Add more things if you want to, then press the arrow to send.

4. Setting alarms

Open your apps list by swiping the Home screen to the left, and then tap Alarms & Clock.

2.

You'll see a sample alarm that you can edit by tapping on it, or add a new one by pressing the + at the bottom. Give the alarm a name by pressing the Alarm name box, and then tap the time to set it.

3.

Scroll through the numbers until it's set to the time you want, and then press the tick.

4.

Your alarm will now be set and you can turn it on or off, or edit it whenever you need to.
