5. Tips & tricks

squiggle

Now that you know how to get the basics done with your phone, here are some tips to help you make the most of it.

Using the notification bar

At the top of the phone screen is the notification bar. This will show you some information about the phone, such as the signal strength and battery level, and will also notify you about new messages, emails, calls and notifications from other apps.

Swipe down from the top of the screen to show the notification panel, which'll give you more information on the notifications, such as who a message is from and what it says. You can tap any notification to go to the app that deals with it - tapping a text opens Messaging, tapping a missed call will take you to the Phone app etc.

You can also turn some phone features on or off in the notifications panel. At the top are switches for some commonly used features like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Rotation. Tap any of these switches to turn them off or on.

Improving battery life

You can turn off or change many functions to improve your battery life. Here are some of the best ways:

  • When you've finished using an app, tap the back button to close it. If you tap the Start button, it'll take you back to the Start screen, but it will also leave the app running in the background, potentially using up your battery life.
  • Your screen being on uses a lot of battery. Shorten the time it takes for the screen to turn off by going to Settings Lock screen > Screen times out and select 30 seconds or less.
  • Reducing the screen's brightness can also save power. Tap Settings brightness Level and choose a lower setting.

Hopefully that should be all the help you need to use your phone. If you want any extra help, get in touch with an expert from Team Knowhow here.
