Kit Guide: LG G5 - using it

This guide will help you use the basic functions of your G5. If you haven't set it up yet, take a look at our Set it up guide.

1. Making phone calls

On the Home screen, tap the Phone icon.  

2.

You'll see the keypad. Type a number and press the blue phone button to make a call.

3.

You can also use the keypad to type part of a number or name, and the contact will appear. Tap their name and press the blue phone button to call.

4.

Tap Contacts to see a list of your contacts (you can search or scroll through the list). Tap their name and the G5 will call them.

5.

To mark a contact as a favourite, tap the star at the top.

6.

To look at your call history, tap the Call logs tab.

2. Sending texts & multimedia messages (MMS)

Follow these steps to send texts and multimedia messages from your G5.

Tap the Messaging app from the Home screen, which looks like a yellow and white speech bubble. If you have unread messages, you'll see a badge in the corner.

2.

Tap in the To box.

3.

Type a number or name, and matching contacts will appear below. Tap the contact you want to text.

4.

Tap in the Enter message box and type your message.

5.

To send, tap the Send button.

Follow the steps above from (1-3), then tap the paperclip.

2.

You'll be able to choose from the files on your phone, or take a new picture, video, voice recording, or memo. Tap to add your attachments.

3.

You can write your message under the attachment(s), then tap Send when you're done. Remember that this'll be sent as an MMS message, and you might be charged for it.

Deleting a message thread

1.

Open the Messaging app.

2.

Tap the bin icon at the top and tickboxes will appear next to each message thread.

3.

Tap the boxes of the thread(s) you want to delete, then tap Delete at the bottom.

4.

Confirm you want to delete it on the next screen.

3. Sending emails

To use email on your G5, you'll have to have email set up. If you haven't done this yet, find out how on our Set it up guide.

 Go to Apps, then tap Email.

2.

Tap the compose button, which is a blue circle with a + on it.

3.

Tap on the To line and start typing the name of your contact. Tap the correct contact to add them, and you can add more contacts like this.

4.

Tap in the next line and type a Subject.

Follow the steps above from 1-4, then tap the paperclip at the top.  

2.

Use the menu to find the file(s) you want to attach. Tap the attachment and a green tick will appear on your chosen files. You can also take a new photo, video, or voice recording. Tap OK.

3.

Add text if you'd like, then tap the arrow to send.

4. Setting alarms

Tap Tools then Clock, on tap the clock on your Home screen.

2.

Tap Alarm at the top.

3.

To set a new alarm, tap the blue circle with the + sign.

4.

Drag the slider around the clock face to pick the hour. Do the same for the minutes.

5.

Tap the days you want the alarm to Repeat, such as a weekdays.

You can change the alarm soundvolumevibration, and snooze settings. You can also give your alarm a name.

7.

Tap Save to set the alarm.

8.

To turn off an alarm, tap the switch next to its name. Tap it again to turn it on.

9.

To delete an alarm, tap the bin and choose the alarms you want to delete using the tickboxes. Tap Delete.

5. Tips & tricks

Your G5 has some super-helpful features for making the most of it. Below are a couple of tips to help you.

Rearranging the touch buttons

The touch buttons at the bottom of the phone are used to navigate, but they can be changed, and you can add more buttons if you need them.

1.

Go to Settings > Display > Home touch buttons > Button combination.

2.

Touch the icon you want to move, and drag it to the place you want it to be.

3.

You can add more icons (maximum five) by dragging an icon to the menu bar. The available icons are below the menu bar.

4.

You can change the colour of the menu bar by tapping the back arrow and tapping Colour.

Using Q

Slide QSlide is a multitasking feature, which lets you layer apps. You can reposition and resize the windows, or make them transparent.

1.

Drag down the notification bar and tap an app from the QSlide apps.

2.

The slider lets you adjust the transparency of the app. Tap the X to close it.

3.

You can also open an app as a QSlide app by tapping the menu icon (the three dots), and choosing QSlide.
