Now that your phone's set up, you'll need to get up to speed with some of the basics. This guide should help you familiarise yourself with your Desire 530.
One of the most common things you'll do with your phone is make phone calls. If you're not sure how to do it on your HTC, we've written some steps to help you.
Tap the Phone icon on the Home screen. It's usually in the bottom left-hand corner and looks like a white phone.
The phone app will open on the dialler page. Here you can type in a mobile number if you know it, then press Call to ring it.
There's some tabs at the top with more options. Press the People tab and you'll be shown a list of your contacts. Scroll through and tap the contact you want, then press Call.
To find out how to send text and picture messages from the Desire 530, work through the following steps.
Go to the messages app by tapping the Messaging icon. It's on the Home screen and looks like a white speech bubble with green lines in it. If you've got any unread messages, a small red badge will be in the top right-hand corner of it.
When you open the app, you'll see a list of the conversations you've already got going on. To write a new message, press the + at the top of the screen.
A blank text message will open, so you'll need to choose who it's going to. Tap the To box and type in a contact's name or mobile number. You can also choose from your list of contacts by pressing the person icon on the right.
Tap the Add text box and type in your message. If it's just the message you're sending, press Send (the grey speech bubble on the right).
You can add pictures and videos to your messages if you want. To attach something, press the Paperclip on the left of the message box.
Choose the type of file you want to attach by tapping one of the icons, then look through your phone to find the item you want to send and tap it to choose it.
You'll be able to see the file you chose in the message. You can add more if you want to. Remember that sending pictures this way will use your data, so check with your network provider to prevent any unexpected bills. Press Send when you've finished the message.
A 'message thread' is all the text messages between you and another person. If you want to delete an entire thread, press and hold on the one you want to get rid of, then press Delete.
If you use your phone to keep up to date with your emails, you'll need to know how to send one, so we've written some steps to help you with it.
You'll need to have your email account already set up on your phone, so if you've not done that yet, go to our Setup guide to learn how to add it.
Open your email app by pressing Apps > Email or Gmail.
Press the Compose button for a new email (it looks like a white pen in a red circle).
Tap the To box and type in the email address you want to send your message to. Any matching contacts will appear as you type. Tap the Subject box to give your email a title.
To write your message, tap the Compose email box and type out the message. If it's just the email you want to send, press the white arrow at the top of the screen.
You can attach pictures, videos and other documents to your email if you want. Press the paperclip at the top of the screen.
Go through the options and find what you want to add to the email, then tap on it. It'll be added to email and you'll be able to see it below the message you've written.
You can add more than one item to the message if you need to. When you're done, press the white arrow at the top of the screen to send the message.
The steps below will show you how to set alarms on your HTC.
Alarms are inside the 'Clock' app. You can get to it by pressing Apps > Clock, then follow the steps below. Then tap Alarms.
If you've got any alarms set already, they'll be shown here. To add a new one, press the + at the top of the screen.
Set the alarm time by scrolling through the numbers on the minutes and hours wheels. You'll need to set both of them.
Once you've set the alarm time, you can choose the alarm tone, along with different vibration, and snooze options. When you've finished customising your alarm, press Done to save it.
That's it, your phone is set up and you should be a bit more familiar with using it now. If you're still struggling and want to speak to a Team Knowhow expert, click here.
