Kit Guide: HTC 10 - using it

We've written this guide to help you use your HTC 10 after setting it up for the first time. If you haven't done that yet, our Set it up guide can help.

1. Making phone calls

Tap Phone from your Home screen.

2.

You'll see the dialler keypad. Type the number, and tap Call at the bottom.

3.

You can also spell the name of the contact, as the numbers match the letters. Tap the name of your contact and call them.

4.

When you have a contact open, tap the star if you want to mark them as a favourite.

2. Sending texts & multimedia messages (MMS)

Tap the messaging app from the Home screen - it looks like a white speech bubble with green lines on it. If you have unread messages, you'll see a red badge in the corner.

Tap + at the top.

3.

Tap in the To box at the top. Type a number or name to bring up your contacts, then tap the contact you want.

4.

Tap in the Add text box and type your message. Tap the arrow to send it.

To add an attachment, follow the steps above from 1 - 3. Tap the paper clip to the left of the text box.

 

2.

Choose from the files on your phone, or you can take a new picture, video, or voice recording.

 

3.

Tap on the file you want to add. You can add more files in this way.

 

4.

The attachment(s) will show in your message. You can add text and send it using the arrow. Remember that you might be charged for MMS - check with your network provider about costs.

Open the Messaging app.

 

2.

Touch and hold on the name of the thread you want to delete, and you'll see a menu.

 

3.

Tap Delete

 

4.

Confirm by tapping OK. The thread will be deleted.

 

3. Sending emails

Tap Mail or Gmail, depending on how you set up email. Tap the blue +.

2.

If you've added more than one email address and want to send email from a different one, tap your email address at the top and tap another account.

3.

Tap in the To line and start to type your contact. Tap the name of who you want to email. You can add more contacts like this.

4.

Type a subject in the next line.

5.

Tap in the main window to type your email, then tap the arrow at the top to send it.

Follow the steps above, from 1 - 5, and tap the paperclip at the top.

2.

Choose what type of file you want to attach. You can look through the files on your phone, or take a new picture or video using the camera. Tap the file (or files), and tap Done to add them to your email.

The attachments will show in your email. You can add more text and the arrow to send it.

4. Setting alarms

Tap the Clock on the Home screen, or go to Apps > Clock.

Tap the Clock on the Home screen, or go to Apps > Clock.

2.

Tap alarms at the top.

3.

Tap the + at the top of the screen to add an alarm.

4.

Set the time by scrolling through the hours and minutes.

5.

You can edit the sound and vibration for each alarm. Tap Done to save.

6.

You can tap the tickboxes to turn an alarm on or off.

7.

To delete an alarm, tap the menu icon (it looks like three dots) at the top, and tap Delete.

8.

Tap the tickboxes to choose the alarms you want to delete, then tap Delete.

5. Tips & tricks

Your HTC 10 has many features to help you with your day-to-day tasks. Below are a couple of useful features.<

Personalising BlinkFeed

BlinkFeed is a service which gives you the news from your Home screen. You can add your favourite news sites, and personalise it.

Swipe left-to-right on the Home screen to go the BlinkFeed page.

Swipe from the left side of the phone to open the sidebar.

3.

Tap the at the top.

4.

Choose which news sources you want in your feed. News Republic is a service on BlinkFeed that brings your news. You can also add your social network feeds. Tap the left arrow on the menu bar.

 

5.

Choose the topics you're interested in, by swiping left and picking your categories. Tap the arrow in the top-left corner to choose more sources.

6.

Choose what news sources News Republic takes information from. You'll need to accept the Terms and conditions.

Monitoring your data usage

Your HTC 10 comes with a monitor to help you track your data use.

1.

Go to Settings More > Data Usage.

2.

Under the Mobile tab, you can set a slider to warn you if you're getting close to your chosen limit.

3.

Tap the Limit mobile data usage if you want the phone to stop using mobile data after the limit's been reached.

4.

Remember that this shows data usage as your phone calculates it, and it might not be the same as how your mobile network calculates it. We recommend setting the sliders a little below your allowance, until you see how it compares.

5.

Tap the Minutes tab to set your billing cycle.
