Kit Guide: Caterpillar S40 - using it

Your S40 should be set up now, but you'll probably want to know how to use it. This guide covers the basics, from making calls to setting alarms.

 

1. Making phone calls

Press the Phone icon on the Home screen (it looks like a blue phone).

2.

You can either type in a number or search through your contacts.

  • Press the blue keypad at the bottom and you'll get the dialler. Here you can type in a mobile number.
  • To search your contacts, tap Contacts at the top and you'll see a list of them.
3.

When you have the number you want to call on the screen, press Call (the green phone).

2. Sending texts & multimedia messages (MMS)

Sending text messages is great for when you haven't got time to talk on the phone. These simple steps will show you how.

Open your Inbox by pressing the Messaging icon (two speech bubbles) on the Home screen.

Write a new message by pressing the + in the bottom-right corner.

2.

Tap the line under 'To', and type in the persons name or mobile number.

3.

Write your message in the 'Type message' box, then press the arrow to send it.

Sending attachments & multimedia messages (MMS)

You can add pictures, videos, and other things to your text, which turns it into an MMS message. Doing this can cost you money, so check with your network about charges.

Follow the steps above, then press the paperclip instead of send.

Choose the file that the item you want is in.

3.

When you've found the one you want to attach, tap on it.

4.

You'll see a preview of it added to your message. When you're happy, press Send (the arrow).

Deleting a message thread

To delete a message thread (a list of messages between you and someone else), open your inbox and look for it. When you've found it, press and hold on it and you'll see a tick pop-up next to it. Tap the bin icon at the top, and it'll be deleted.

 

3. Sending emails

To start sending emails, you'll need the account to be set up. If you've not done that yet and need some help with it, have a look at our Setup Guide.

Open your Inbox by pressing Apps > GMail or Email (it depends which one you've set up).

Write a new email by pressing Compose (the pen in the orange circle).

2.

Type the persons name or email address in the 'To' box.

4.

Type your message under the Subject box, then when you're done, press the white arrow at the top to send it.

Adding an attachment

Write your email, the press the paperclip instead of send.

Choose where your file is saved.

Look through your files, then tap the one you want to add it.

You'll see a preview of it under the email you wrote. Press Send when you're happy (the white arrow at the top).

4. Setting alarms

Open the alarm settings by pressing Apps > Clock.

2.

Add a new alarm by pressing the + in the red circle.

3.

Drag the arm around the clock face to choose the hour you're setting.

4.

Do the same for the minutes. When the time you want is set, press OK.

Your alarm is set. Change the ringtone, snooze settings and repeat options if you want. Tap the switch next to the alarm to turn it off (red means it's on, grey means it's off).
