Kit Guide: BlackBerry KEYone - using it

Now that you've set your phone up, you're ready to start using it. This guide will take you through some of the basics, like making calls and sending texts.

1. Making phone calls

One of the core features of your phone is making calls, here's how it's done on your BlackBerry KEYone.

The first thing you need to do is open the Phone app from your Apps list.

You'll see 3 icons across the top of the screen:

  • The star is your 'Favourites' list. This is where you'll see any contact you've marked as a Favourite by tapping the star on their contact information.
  • The clock icon is your recent calls.
  • The outline of three people shows all of your contacts.

To dial a number, tap the pink circle at the bottom of the screen.

Enter the number you want to dial, and press the green call button to make the call.

2. Sending texts & multimedia messages (MMS)

An easy way to stay in touch with people is using text messages, here's how to send texts, and also how to add attachments to your messages.

From your Home screen, tap the Messages icon (it's a blue circle with a white speech bubble).

2.

Tap the Compose button in the bottom-right corner (it looks like a blue circle with a white cross).

Choose who you want to send your message to by tapping the To line at the top.

You can enter a mobile number, or type a contact's name - any matching contacts that are stored in your phone will appear as you type. Tap a contact to choose them.

5.

Type your message, and tap the arrow to send it.

Follow steps 1 to 5 above, but don't send your message yet.

7.

Tap the plus symbol, and look through the icons for the item you want to attach. When you've found it, tap it.

When you've added your attachment, tap the arrow to send it.

Deleting a message thread

A message thread is a series of messages sent between you and a contact, if you want to delete an entire thread, just tap and hold their name, then tap the bin icon.

 

3. Sending emails

Emails can be useful if you need to send a bit more information than you can in a text message, or if you need to send a few attachments. Here's how to send a basic email, and also how to add attachments.

From your Apps list, tap the Gmail icon.

2.

Tap the compose button (it's a red circle with a white pen in it).

3.

Choose who you want to send your email to by tapping the To line, then enter a Subject for your email.

4.

Tap into the blank area and type your message, tap the white arrow to send your email.

Prepare the email as above, then tap the paperclip icon at the top of the screen and tap Attach file.

2.

Using the icons, find the item you want to attach.

3.

When you've found it, tap it to add it to your email, then tap the white arrow to send your message.

4. Setting alarms

Follow these steps to learn how to set an alarm on your BlackBerry KEYone.

Alarms are set using the Clock app, go to your Apps list and tap the Clock icon.

2.

Tap the Alarm icon at the top of the screen.

3.

You'll see any alarms that are currently stored in your phone. To set a new one, tap the red + icon.

4.

Choose a time by sliding your finger around the clock and tapping Ok.

To choose which days you want the alarm to go off, tap Repeat.

6.

Tap the days you want the alarm to sound.

7.

To turn an alarm on or off, tap the switch.
