We've written this guide to help you with setting up a Blackberry DTEK50. We cover everything you need to do to get it working the way you want, from inserting the SIM to adding your email accounts.
When you open the box for the first time you'll find these things inside:
Before you switch the Blackberry on, you need to insert the SIM card. You can also add a microSD memory card to increase the number of photos and videos you can save. If you're doing that, you might as well do it at the same time as the SIM (they're installed in the same place).
Insert the SIM removal tool into the right-hand side of the phone.
Push it in until the tray pops out.
Place the SIM card into the recess on the left, with the metal contacts facing down. If you've got a microSD card, drop it into the other one.
Slide the tray back into the phone and push it in until it sits flush with the phone.
Turn the phone on by holding the Power button down until the screen lights up.
When the phone loads up, you'll have to complete the Setup Wizard. You only have to do this once, and once you're done, the phone will be set up the way you want. We cover each step below and explain anything that doesn't make sense along the way.
At some point during the Setup Wizard you might be asked to pick your service provider from a list. If you are, just tap it and press OK. If you're not, don't worry, the phone will have figured it out automatically.
Choose your language and press the arrow.
Select your Wi-Fi network from the list. You can skip this if you like, but you'll use some of your mobile data allowance to finish the setup. If you don't know your Wi-Fi network's name or password, it'll probably be on a sticker on your router.
Type the Wi-Fi password and press Connect.
If your old phone runs on Android, you can transfer your account and data over by pressing Copy Google accounts... If you don't, press No, thanks and carry on as below.
Enter your Google or Gmail account and press Next. If you don't have one yet, tap Create a new account and follow the instructions.
Accept the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. Read them if you like by tapping the links.
Choose any of the Google services you want to use:
Tap Next to move on.
If you don't already have it set up, you'll be asked to add a payment method to your Google account. This makes paying for apps and media faster, but you don't have to add one if you don't want to, so make your choice and press Continue.
You can add other Email accounts here if you have them. If you're not sure what to do press Not now - we deal with email accounts in more detail further on in this article.
Choose the type of lock screen you want to use. Again, if you're not familiar with the options, untick the box and press Next as we explain it further on.
Untick any apps that you don't want to use and tap Next.
Agree to the BlackBerry license agreement. Press Next.
Sign in with an Email address to join Blackberry's Insider mailing list, or press Skip to move on.
Choose OK to agree or press No thanks to decline when asked if you'd like to send usage data to Blackberry. Tap Next.
Tap Finish to complete the Setup Wizard.

At the bottom of the screen are three buttons that are always available to help you navigate apps, menus, and websites:
While you probably connected your Blackberry to Wi-Fi during the initial Setup, you'll need to connect to other networks sooner or later. Below are the steps to show you how.
On the Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
Open the Settings menu (it's the cog icon).
Tap Wi-Fi.
Check the switch at the top - if it's off, tap it.
Find the name of the network you want to connect to and tap it.
Enter the password and press Connect.
When the phone's online, 'Connected' will appear beneath the name of the network and a Wi-Fi icon will appear in the bar at the very top of the screen.
The email account you set up during the Setup Wizard isn't the only one you can add to the Blackberry DTEK50. This part of the guide shows you how to add accounts from Hotmail, Yahoo, Outlook, and most other email providers.
Open the main Settings menu, then scroll down and select Accounts.
Press Add account.
For a personal account, tap IMAP. For a work or education account, including '.ac.uk' addresses, tap Exchange. If you have an old personal account and IMAP doesn't work, try 'POP3'.
Enter your email address and password.
If you want to, you can change how often the phone checks for email (every half hour is a good compromise between data usage and alert time). Amend any other settings and tap Next.
Give the account a name to make it easy to tell it apart from your other accounts and type your name. Tap Next to finish the Setup.

We always suggest using a lock screen on your phone, as without one, anybody can access your photos, messages, and social media accounts. If you didn't do it during the Setup Wizard, or you want change the one you've got, these steps explain how.
Open the Settings menu, scroll down, and tap Security.
Press Screen lock.
Choose the unlock method you want to use:
Decide whether you want to lock the operating system. If you forget your code you won't be able to use or reset your phone, so chose No, thanks if you're unsure.
Enter your pattern/PIN/password and press Continue.
Confirm it by entering it again and tap OK.
Select what notifications appear on the lock screen: 'Show all notification content' shows the app or person contacting you, and a preview of the message. 'Hide sensitive...' only shows the app.
Press Done to complete the Setup.
The next time you unlock your phone you'll need to use your new unlock method.
