5. Tips

squiggle

Now that you know how to do some of the basics on your phone, here are a few tips to help you get a bit more out of it.

Notifications

A lot of your apps can send you notifications - about new messages, new emails, weather updates, news reports and lots of other things. You can change how these notifications appear on your phone, or turn them off if you don't want to see them.

Go to Settings Notifications

In here, you'll see a list of all the apps that can send you notifications - tap one to change its settings.

  • Allow Notifications: use the switch to turn notifications on or off for the app.
  • Show in Notification Centre: turn this on to see what's in the Notification Centre.
  • Sounds: this lets you turn notification sounds on or off.
  • Badge App Icon: shows you a small badge on some app icons to show you how many unread messages you have.
  • Show on Lock Screen: turn on to see notifications without having to unlock the phone.

Updating iOS

Apple release updates for its iPhones a few times a year, and some of these can contain new features.

To check for a new update, go to Settings > General > Software Update

If an update is available, tap Download and Install to get the update. This might take a few minutes, but once it's done your phone will be up to date.

Hopefully, that should be everything you need to know about using your phone, but if you want any extra help, you can get in touch with our Team Knowhow Experts here.
