We've written this guide to help you set up an Alcatel OneTouch Pixi 4. Everything's covered, from putting the SIM card in, to setting up a lock screen.
Here's what you'll get in your box:
First of all, you'll need to put your SIM card in. The back cover needs to come off, so look on the right-hand edge of the phone. In the corner, you'll see a notch in the plastic. Use your fingernail to ease the cover away from the phone. If the battery's already in there, you'll need to take it out.
With the screen facing down, you'll see a slot in the top-right corner of the battery compartment. The SIM card slides in there, with the cut-off corner first, and the gold contacts facing down.
The memory card (if you've got one) goes into a slot on the left-hand edge of the battery compartment. The thinner edge goes in first, with the gold contacts facing down.
Before you can use the Pixi 4, it needs setting up. We've explained everything the steps below.
Choose a language. 'English (United Kingdom)' should be there already, but you can press the down arrow to change it. Press the yellow arrow when you've chosen.
We recommend that you connect to Wi-Fi here because the phone needs to download some settings. Tap the name of your network.
Type in your wireless password (it'll be on a sticker on your router if you don't know it). Press Connect.
If you've used an Android phone before, you can sync any information that's backed up. To start fresh with a new phone, press No, thanks, then Next.
If you've got a Google account, type in your Google email address, then press Next. If not, tap Or create a new account and set one up (you'll need one for downloading apps).
Read the information about the 'SwiftKey' keyboard, and then press Got it.
You can back up your keyboard if you want, so that it remembers the way you type. Press Sign in if you want to back it up, or Not now to continue without backing up.
Type in your Google account password, then press Next.
Signing in comes with some 'Terms and Conditions'. Tap the links to read more about them, then press Accept when you're ready.
'Google Services' are things that happen in the background. Read through them to learn more, and tap the tick next to any you want to opt out of. Then press Next.
You'll be asked to set up payment information for buying premium content. Choose a payment option, or press No, thanks and then Continue (many apps and games are free, so this is optional).
The Pixi 4 can handle more than one email account. You can set another one up here if you want. We cover this later on, so we recommend pressing Not now, then Next.
You can set up a lock screen to protect your phone, but it can be a pain to have to keep unlocking it while you're still setting it up, so press Skip and we'll go through this later.
There's some information about your 'new launcher'. Read through it and press Next.
You'll need to allow the next four things, so press Allow on each screen. When you've done it, you'll see your Home screen.
An internet connection is needed for lots of apps and games, the steps below will help you stay connected.
Swipe down from the top of the screen, then press the Settings cog in the top-right.
Make sure the switch is 'On', then tap the name of your network.
Type in the wireless password. If you're not sure what it is, it'll be on your router. Press Connect.
When it's done, you'll see 'Connected' under your network name.
Open Settings, then press More.
Choose Mobile Networks.
Next to mobile data, tap the switch turn it on or off (if it's on, the switch is green, and if it's off, it's grey).
Keep all your emails in one place by learning how to set up new accounts.
Open the Settings menu, then press Accounts > Add account.
Choose the type of account you're setting up, and type in the email address.
Type in the password for that account, then press Next.
Choose the notification options you want to use, and press Next.
Add your name if you want to, then press Done.
The account should set up automatically, but if it doesn't you might need to put some manual settings in. We've got a guide to email server settings to help you with it.
Adding a lock screen to your phone is a good way to protect your data. We've written these steps to help you set one up.
Swipe down from the top of the Home screen and tap the Settings cog.
In the list, press Screen lock.
Choose the lock you want to set. We recommend choosing PIN or Password because they're the most secure.
Type in the code you want to use, then press Continue.
Type it in again to confirm it, and press OK.
Choose what notification options you want, then press Done.
