These steps show you how to make phone calls from the Galaxy J1.
From the Home screen, tap the Phone icon (it's usually in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen).
Use the keypad to enter a name or phone number, or tap the Contacts icon in the top-right to find the person you want to call.
With the number or contact on screen, tap the green phone icon to start the call.
This part of the guide explains how to send normal text messages, and text messages with attachments.
Tap the Messaging app (it's the white and yellow envelope on the Home screen).
To open a new message, tap on the compose button (it looks like a pen with paper) at the top of the screen.
Choose who to send the message to by tapping the Enter recipient box. You can enter a mobile number directly, or you can start to type a contact's name and select them when they appear.
Tap the Enter message box and type your text.
When you're ready to send the message, press the orange Send button.
To add an attachment to a message, follow the steps above to number four (don't send the message yet).
Tap the paper clip below the send button.
Choose they type of file you want to attach. Images and videos are sent as MMS, which might cost more than a normal text. You can check this by checking your phone contract or speaking to your service provider.
Tap the file you want to attach and it'll appear in the message.
Add any more attachments and text, then press the orange button to send the message.
To delete messages, hold your finger on the name of the person whose messages you want to remove. When the tick-box appears, press the bin icon in the top right-hand corner.

To send emails, you need to have already set up your email account on the phone.
To see your emails, tap the Email icon on the Home screen.
Tap the white pen & paper icon in the bottom-left corner.
Press the To line to choose who to send the message to. Type the email address, or type a contact's name and select them when their info appears.
Enter a Subject.
Tap the white area in the middle of the screen and type your message.
To send the email, tap the envelope icon in the top right-hand corner.
To send an email with an attachment, follow the steps above but don't send it.
Press the paper clip on the title bar and choose the type of file you want to attach.
Find the file you want to attach, tap it, and press Done.
If an image is quite big, you might be asked to resize it, which makes it quicker to send, download, and use less data.
Add any more attachments or text, then tap the envelope to send the email.
You can use the Galaxy J1 to wake you up in the morning using the Alarm feature.
From the Home screen, press Apps, then tap the Clock.
The tabs across the top of the screen open the Alarms, World Clock, Stopwatch, and Timer menus. Alarms should be open by default, but if it's not, press it.
Tap the + icon.
Set the alarm using the arrows and choose what days to repeat the alarm on by tapping Repeat. You can change the melody, volume, and snooze duration, or select Smart alarm to gradually increase the volume to wake you up more gently. Tap OK when you're finished.
The alarm will be highlighted green when it's active. Tap the alarm clock icon to switch it on and off.
If you have a Samsung account, you can use it to manage your phone remotely. Go to the Samsung account website and log in with your account details.
You'll see a range of options which let you manage your J1:
