In this guide, we’ll take you through the Setup of your new Nokia 3.1 phone. We’ll take you through everything from putting the SIM card in, to setting an alarm.
Here’s what you’ll find in the box:
The Nokia takes a nano-SIM card. If you didn’t get one with your phone, your network provider can send you one. You can also add more storage space with a ‘microSD’ (memory) card.
Here’s how to get your phone set up and ready to use. We’ll take you through each of the steps and explain anything that might not make sense.
Turn the phone on by pressing the Power button until it vibrates.
Choose the language you’d like to use (English is pre-set) then tap Let’s Go.
Tap Copy your data if you’d like to restore your data from a backup.
Choose a Wi-Fi network to connect to, then type in the Password and tap Done.
Choose how you’d like to restore your backup, we’re choosing to use A backup from the cloud to log in which will ask for your Google account information.
Type in your email address, then tap Next.
Put your password in and tap Next.
Your phone will look for backups on your Google Account, if it finds more than one, make sure you pick the most recent one.
You’ll get the option to add a screen lock but we’d recommend tapping Not now because we’ll cover this in a later chapter. If you chose ‘Not now’, you’ll see a warning, just tap Skip anyway.
Choose which Google services you’d like to use by tapping the switches, then tap I Agree.
Your Google Assistant can help with all sorts of things, you can ask it questions or use it to help organise your calendar. Tap Next to start setting it up.
You’ll need to give permission for a few things, read through them and tap Turn on.
Your Google Assistant can work with your voice too. To register your voice, tap I Agree and follow the steps. Otherwise, tap No, thanks. You can always set this up later if you want.
Your Assistant can also use what’s on the screen to help give you better suggestions for things. Turn the switch on or off, then tap Next.
You can choose to add an email account here if you want, but we’ll cover that in a later chapter. Tap All Set.
Tap Let’s Go to finish the setup.
That’s your phone set up and ready to go. You’ll be looking at the Home screen of your new Nokia 3.1. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to see a list of apps already installed.

Swipe down and tap Settings > Network & Internet > Wi-Fi. Make sure the switch is on, it should be blue.
Tap your network name.
Type the password and tap Connect. If you’re not sure what it is, look for a sticker on your router.
When it’s done, you’ll see the word ‘Connected’ under your network name.
Your mobile data connection probably set itself up when you first turned your phone on, but if it didn’t, here’s how to do it manually. When it’s working, you’ll see a ‘data indicator‘ at the top of the screen showing ‘4G’, ‘H’, ‘3G’ or ‘E’.

Go to Settings > Security & location > Screen lock.
Choose the type of lock you’d like to use.
We’ll show you how to add a PIN, but the others are set up in much the same way. Tap PIN.
You’ll be asked if you want your phone to request the PIN when it restarts. We’d recommend tapping Yes for added security.
Type the PIN you want to use, and enter it again to confirm it.
Choose how you’d like to see Notifications when your phone’s locked.
Tap Done to finish adding your PIN lock.
