This guide will take you through setting up your Moto X Force. We'll cover everything from what's in the box, to protecting it with a lock screen.
The Moto X Force uses a NanoSIM card, and you can add more storage using a MicroSD card. Both of these need to be put on a SIM tray which is inserted into the top of the phone.
Push the SIM tool into the hole at the top of the phone, until the tray starts to come out.
Pull the tray out of the phone.
Put the NanoSIM on the top of the SIM tray, with the gold contacts facing up.
Flip the tray over, and put the MicroSD card in place, with the gold contacts facing down.
Put the tray back into the phone.
Press and hold the power button on the right-hand side of the phone for 2-3 seconds to turn the phone on, and get it ready to set up.
The first time you turn on your Moto X Force, it will show the 'Setup Wizard', which is a series of steps to get the phone set up and ready to use.
Choose your language, and then tap the yellow arrow.
Tap the Wi-Fi network you want to connect the phone to, or if you don't have Wi-Fi, tap Skip.
Type the password for your Wi-Fi - if you're not sure what it is, it can normally be found on your router.
Tap Connect, and if it works you'll be taken to the next screen.
If you've had an Android phone before, you can transfer some data from it to your new phone. The other phone will need to support NFC. If it does, hold the two phones near each other and follow the steps to transfer. If it doesn't, tap Skip.
If you have a Google account, type in the email address and press Next. If you don't have one, tap Or create a new account to create one.
Type in your Google password, and press Next.
You might be asked to add some payment info to your Google account. To do it now, choose a payment method, tap Next, then fill in the details for it. To skip it, tap Remind me later, then tap Next.
If there are any phone backups on your Google account, you might be given the option to restore them to your Moto X Force. To do that, choose a backup, and then tap Next, or to skip it, choose Set up as new device, and press Next.
To set up the lock screen, so that your photos, messages and other data are protected by a code, tap Set Screen Lock now. To skip it, tap Skip.
If you're setting up a lock screen, you'll be asked to choose the type:
Choose how you want notifications to show on the lock screen, and tap Next.
Choose which Google Services you want to use by ticking the boxes.
Read through the 'Google Now' info, and tap More.
To use Google Now, tap Yes, I'm in, or tap Skip if you don't want to use it.
You'll be asked again if you want to transfer any data from a different phone. Tap Start Migrate, or Maybe later to skip it.
You'll now be on the Home screen - read through the introduction at the top, and then press Got it.
The Setup Wizard is now finished.
You'll now be looking at the Home screen. Along the bottom are some of the most used apps, like Phone, Messages, Chrome and Camera. In the middle is the Apps icon, which will show you all the other apps installed on your phone.
At the bottom of your phone are the navigation buttons. These will help you get around the phone, and are:
'Back' (triangle): takes you back one screen or closes an app.
'Home' (circle): this will always take you back to the Home screen.
'Menu' (square): this will show you any apps you've had open recently, and let you swap between them.
Your Moto X Force will need an internet connection to use some of its best features, such as downloading new apps or games, and browsing websites. You can connect to the internet using Wi-Fi or mobile data, and we'll go through each of these below.
Tap on Wi-Fi.
Tap the Wi-Fi network you want to connect to.
Type the Wi-Fi password - if you're not sure what this is, you can normally find it on your router.
Tap Connect, and if it works, your Wi-Fi should say 'Connected' underneath it, and you'll see the Wi-Fi signal bars at the top of the screen.
Your Moto X Force will always try and use Wi-Fi instead of Mobile data, so you'll need to switch it off.
Go to Settings > Wi-Fi > Turn switch off
With Wi-Fi off, check at the top of the screen for a '4G' or '3G' symbol, which indicate your mobile data connection. you may also see a 'E' or '2G' symbol if you don't have a good signal. If you can't see it, follow the steps below to check your mobile data settings.
Tap Mobile networks.
Tap Access Point Names.
If you can see your mobile network showing, check the green dot is against it - tap it if it's not.
If you're network isn't showing, tap the three dots in the top-right corner, and then tap Reset to default.
Once that's done, check at the top again for the mobile data indicator.
If you're having trouble getting mobile data working, you may need to manually set up the 'APN settings', which the phone needs to connect to mobile data. We have full guides for each network and how to set them up here.
Your Moto X Force can work with all types of email accounts, including work and personal ones. You'll need to know the type of email account you have - work or school accounts will use Exchange, while personal ones will use IMAP.
From the Home screen, tap the Apps icon, then tap Settings.
Scroll down and tap Accounts.
Tap + Add account.
Tap the type of account you want to add.
Type in your email address.
Type your password, and tap Next.
You might be given some account options, such as how often the phone checks for email. Choose your options and tap Next.
Give the account a name, and type your name. Tap Next.
Your account is setup, and you can see your email by opening the Mail app from the Home screen.
If you’re having any problems setting up your email account, you might need to set up the account manually. You'll need to know the settings for your account - if you don't know them, check our detailed guide to email server settings.
Setting up a lock screen will help keep the information on your phone safe. There are different types of screen lock you can add, and we'll explain these below.
Scroll down, and tap Security.
Tap Screen lock.
Choose the type of lock you want to use:
Type or draw your code.
