Kit Guide: Motorola G Play - using it


Getting comfortable with a new phone can be a bit tricky, so we've put this guide together to help you. When you've finished you'll be more confident with the basics, from making calls to setting alarms.

1. Making calls


You'll be chatting in no time if you follow these steps for making calls.

Tap the blue phone on the Home screen. You'll be taken to the speed dial screen where you'll see your favourite contacts.

  • Tap the people icon at the top to see a list of your contacts. Tap a contact, then tap the phone to call them.
  • Tap the blue keypad to type a name or number, then tap the phone to call them.
  • Tapping the clock shows your call history.

2. Sending texts & multimedia messages (MMS)


Sending texts is another way to keep in touch, and these steps will get you going with it.

Tap the Messaging app, which is a pair of speech bubbles on the Home screen.



Press the + in the bottom-right corner.


In the 'Enter recipient' box and type a name or number. Matching contacts will appear and you can tap one you want.


In the Send message box, and type your text.


Press the blue arrow to send.

Sending attachments & multimedia messages (MMS)

MMS messages usually aren't free, so check with your network about costs.

Follow the steps above, then tap the paperclip instead of sending. Choose what type of item you're attaching.


Choose Allow to let Messaging see your files. You can also take a new picture, video, or sound clip if you want.


Tap your item(s), then tap Done (the tick in the top-right corner).


Press the blue arrow to send.

Deleting a message thread

A message 'thread' is a conversation between you and another person. To delete all those messages, press and hold their name in your inbox. It'll get a tick next to it, then you can tap the bin icon at the top to delete it.

3. Sending emails


Before you can use email on your G Play, you'll need to have set the account up. If you haven't done it yet, our Setup guide can help you.

Open Gmail or Email (depending which one you set up) from your apps list, then tap the compose button (the red circle with a pen).


In the To line, type your contact's name or email address.


Add a Subject to the subject box.


Write your email in the Compose email box, then when you're finished, press the white arrow at the top to send it.


Adding an attachment

Follow the steps, then press the paperclip instead of send. Tap Attach file.


Have a look through your files, or Google Drive, to find what you want to attach.


Tap the one you want, to put it in your email.


Write your message, and press the white arrow to send.

4. Setting alarms

Open your apps list and then press Clock. Set a new alarm by pressing the + at the bottom.


Drag the red circle to the hour you want to set.


Do the same for the minutes, then press OK.


Your alarm will be set, and it'll have a red switch next to it showing it's on.

You can change things like the tone, repetition and vibration options by pressing the down arrow.
