These steps will help you make a call on your Lumia 640.
Tap the phone icon from the Home screen.
You'll see your call history, which shows your recent contacts by tapping on the right line.
To search for a contact, tap the magnifying glass and type their name, then tap the enter key.
Matching contacts will appear - tap to choose a contact.
When the contact card opens, you can call or text them by tapping call mobile or text.
From this screen you can also call your voicemail, or open the keypad.
If you swipe across the screen you'll see your speed dial screen. To add new contacts here, tap the + icon and choose a contact.
To the right of the symbols at the bottom is the menu icon (three dots). Tap this to change settings like caller ID display and voicemail numbers.
Read on to find out how to send texts and MMS messages. Remember that you might be charged for MMS messages - check with your provider about costs.
Tap the Messaging app from the Home screen, which is a white speech bubble with a smiley on it. If you have unread messages, there'll be a number next to the icon.
New message will show in your 'highlight colour'. Tap the + to write a new message.
Type the contact's number at the top, or tap the + to look through your contacts. Tap the one you want to message. You can add more contacts like this.
Tap in the type a message box to write your text.
To send, tap the first icon at the bottom (it looks like a speech bubble with lines next to it).
Follow the steps 1 - 4 above, then tap the paperclip.
Options will appear to let your choose what you'd like to attach by tapping on the right line. You can also take a new picture, voice note, or video.
Tap the file(s) to add them. Your attachment(s) will show in the body of the message.
Add more text if you like, then tap the Send button on the bottom left.
Tap Messaging from the Home screen.
Tap and hold on a contact's name, and a menu will appear.
Tap delete. You can also mute the contact so you don't receive notifications about their future messages, or block them.
To send an email, you must have already set up an email account on the Lumia 640. If you haven't done this yet, take a look at our Setup guide for more information.
Tap the Email icon on the Home screen, or from the apps list.
Tap in the To line, and start to type a contact's name. Tap them to add them to the recipient list.
Tap in the Subject line to write one.
Tap in the main window to write your message.
Tap the envelope on the bottom left to send.
Follow the steps 1 - 4 above, then tap the paperclip. Navigate through your files using the menu, then tap the one(s) you want. Tap the tick when you've finished.
Tap the envelope to send.
Open the email app.
Tap the menu button at the bottom.
Tick the items, then tap the bin to delete, or tap the folder to move them.
To find out how to set alarms, follow these steps.
Swipe right-to-left on the Home screen to open your Apps, then tap Alarms.
Tap on the Time line.
Scroll through the hours and minutes to set the time, then tap the tick.
Tap in the Repeat line if you want to set it on other days (like week days), then tap the tick.
You can also edit the sound, name, and snooze time for each alarm. Tap Save.
The alarm will show in the menu. The switch will be on, showing your highlight colour.
To edit or delete an alarm, touch and hold it. The edit menu will open and you can change its settings. Or tap the bin at the bottom to delete.
