This guide takes you through setting up a new LG G5 SE. We cover everything you need to get it ready for its first use, from inserting the SIM to adding your email accounts.
Setting up a new phone can be tricky, so we've covered all the steps you'll need.
Choose which language you want to use, then press the right arrow.
Tap the switches to turn Wi-Fi and mobile data on, then press Next.
Connect to Wi-Fi so your phone can download the things it needs to. Tap the name of your network, then Next.
Type in the wireless password (it'll be on a sticker on your router) and then press Connect.
When it's worked, you'll see 'Connected' under your network name. Press Next.
You can copy information over from an old phone, but to get through the set up quickly, choose No, thanks then tap Next.
You'll need a Google account to download apps and games. If you need to set one up, press Or create a new account.
Type in your Google email address, then tap Next.
Type your password in, then press Next.
By signing in, you agree to Google's Terms and Conditions. Read about them by tapping the links, then press Accept when you're happy.
Google runs some services in the background. Read about them, and tap the tick to get rid of it if you don't want it. Press the down arrow for more.
Choose which services you want, then press the down arrow for the rest.
Choose the last options, then press Next.
You're asked for payment information because you have to pay for some apps. Choose the one you want, or choose No, thanks and you can pay each time instead. Press Continue.
If you've backed up information to your account, you can restore it. Choose an option, or press Don't restore for a fresh set up.
Protecting your phone is important, but unlocking it while setting it up can be a pain. Don't worry, we cover it later, so choose No, thank you then press Next.
There's some Licence Agreements that you need to agree to. Press Done when you've ticked all the boxes.
You'll be taken to your Home screen, and the set up is finished.
The touch buttons under your screen will help you get around your phone.
'Home' (circle): gets you back to the Home screen from any app.
'Back' (triangle): goes back one screen.
'Recent apps' (square): gives a list of recently used apps.
Lots of apps and games rely on the internet to work properly. You'll be able to stay connected with the steps below.
Tap the Settings icon on the Home screen.
At the top of the list, press Wi-Fi.
If the switch at the top is grey, tap it to turn it on.
From the list, tap the name of your network.
Type in your wireless password, then press Connect.
In the settings list, tap Mobile data.
Tap the switch next to it to turn it on or off.
You should be able to get online now, but if you're struggling to get your mobile data to work, we've got a guide to help you with some manual settings here.
You can add all your different email accounts to your G5 SE, so you can keep your stuff in one place. These steps will show you how.
Press the Settings cog on the Home screen.
Choose Accounts & sync.
Tap Add account in the bottom-right corner.
Choose the type of account you're setting up. It'll usually be 'Email' or 'IMAP', but work or education accounts are usually 'Exchange'.
If you chose 'Email', you'll need to choose Other to continue.
Type in your email address and password, then press Next.
Give the account a name if you want, then press Done.
You'll go back to the settings page, where you'll see the new account listed.
If you're having problems getting your email account to set up, you might need some manual settings.
Having a lock screen keeps your information safe from anyone else that could pick up your phone. Here's how to set one up.
Open the settings and press the Display tab at the top. Choose Lock screen from the list.
Tap Select screen lock to set up a new one.
Pick the type of lock you want. We recommend 'PIN' or 'Password' because they're the safest.
Type in the PIN or Password you want to set, then press Next.
Type it in again to confirm it, then press OK.
Choose your notification options, and then press OK.
