Kit Guide: LG G4c - setting it up

This guide takes you through the Setup of your LG G4c, covering everything from inserting the SIM, to setting up your email accounts.

Box contents

Here's what you should find in the box:

  • LG G G4c
  • Battery
  • Mains adaptor
  • USB cable
  • Earphones
  • Information pack

Inserting your SIM & memory cards

Your LG G4c uses a MicroSIM, and you can add a MicroSD card to give you some extra storage for photos, videos and music. Both of these need to go in the back of the phone - so you'll need to remove the back cover first.

G4c Assembly

Using the charging port hole as a notch, prise the back cover away from the phone with your thumbnail.

Slide the MicroSIM into the lower slot, in the top-right corner of the phone. It needs to go in with the metal contacts facing down, and the cut-off corner going in first.

If you're using a MicroSD card, slide it into the upper slot, above the MicroSIM, again with the metal contacts facing down.

Put the back-cover on the phone, and press around the edges to secure it in place.

With everything in, hold the power button on the back of the phone for a few seconds until the phone starts to turn on.

Completing the G4c Setup Wizard

When you turn the phone on for the first time, you'll see the 'Setup Wizard', which is a series of steps to help you get the phone ready to use.

Setting it up

G4c Setup 1

At the welcome screen, choose your language, and tap Next.

Tick the boxes at the top for Mobile Network and Wi-Fi, then tap the Wi-Fi network you want to connect to, or tap Next to skip it.

Type the Wi-Fi password, and tap Connect - if you're not sure what that is, have a look on your router.

If it works, you'll see the word 'Connected' underneath it - tap Next to carry on.

G4c Setup 2

If you've had an Android phone before, and it has 'NFC', you can transfer some of its data to your LG G4c. Tap the two phones together to get started, or tap Skip to carry on.

If you've got a Google account, which you'll need if you want to download new apps or games, type it in and press Next. If you don't have one, tap Or create a new account. If you don't want to use one, tap Skip.

If you're signing in, type your password, and press Next.

You'll have to agree to Google's 'Terms of Service' and 'Privacy Policy'. Tap them to read them, then tap Accept. If you don't want to use a Google account, tap Don't sign in.

G4c Setup 3

You might get asked to add some payment info to your Google account. To do it, choose a payment method, tap Next, and fill in the details for it. Or, tap Remind me later if you don't want to add any.

Read through the Google services, and keep the boxes ticked for the ones you want to use, then tap Next.

You'll have to agree to LG's 'End User License Agreement' - read through it, then tick the box, and tap Next.

You'll also have to agree to LG 'Software Update' and 'Activity Logs' policies - tick the boxes, and tap Next.

The Setup Wizard is finished, and you'll be looking at your Home screen. Along the bottom are icons for some of the most used apps: Phone, Contacts, Internet and Messaging. In the middle is the Apps button, which will show you all the other apps installed on your phone.

Home touch buttons

Along the bottom of the phone are the Home touch buttons, which can help you to get around the phone,

'Back' (triangle): takes you back a page, or closes an app.

'Home' (circle): takes you back to the Home screen.

'Recent apps' (square): shows apps you've had open, and lets you swap between them.

Connecting to the Internet

Your phone will need an internet connection to download new apps and games, connect to your email accounts, or go on websites. You can connect using Wi-Fi or mobile data, and we'll go through the steps to connect both here.

Connecting the G4c to a Wi-Fi network

G4c Internet 1

From the Home screen, tap Apps Settings Networks tab at the top of the screen.

Tap Wi-Fi, and check it's turned on with the switch at the top.

Tap the Wi-Fi network you want to connect to.

Type the password for the Wi-Fi, and tap Connect - if you're not sure what it is, check on your router.

If it's worked, you'll see the word 'Connected' under your Wi-Fi, and you should see the Wi-Fi signal bars at the top of the screen.

Turning mobile data on

G4c Internet 2

From the Home screen, tap Apps, then Settings.

Make sure you're on the Networks tab.

Make sure the switch next to 'Mobile data' is turned on.

If you're having any trouble connecting, you might need to put in the 'APN settings' for your network. Don't worry if you're not sure what these are, we have dedicated guides for each mobile network, and the steps to set them up here.

Setting up your email accounts

Adding your email account will let you read your emails, send new ones, and your phone will let you know when emails comes in.

G4c Email 1

From the Home screen, tap Settings, and tap the General tab at the top-right.

Scroll down, and tap Accounts & Sync.

Tap Add account.

Tap the type of account you want to set up. For work or school accounts, tap Microsoft Exchange, and for personal accounts, tap Email.

G4c Email 2

Type your email address and your password, then press Next and let your phone download the email settings.

You might see some account options, like how often the phone will check for new messages. Choose the options you want, and then tap Next.

Give the account a name, and type your name at the bottom.

Tap Done.

Your account is set up, and you get to your emails by tapping the Email app on the Home screen. If you have any problems adding your account, you might need to type in the settings manually. If you're not too sure what these are, check our guide to email server settings to find them.
