Kit Guide: HTC U Ultra - using it

Knowing where to start with your new phone can be confusing, so we've covered some of the basics here to help you get more comfortable with it.

1. Making phone calls

You'll be chatting with your friends and family in no time with these steps.

Open the Phone app by tapping the phone icon in the bottom-right corner of the Home screen.

  • The screen you'll get is the keypad, where you can type a number in if you know it. Press Call when the number is onscreen.
  • If you've got any 'favourite' contacts, you can see them by tapping Favourites at the top.
  • You can also look through your contacts or groups by tapping the tabs at the top.

2. Sending texts & multimedia messages (MMS)

Texting is a quick and easy way to get messages to people, but you might not know where to start. These steps will help.

Sending texts

Open the messaging app by pressing the Speech bubble icon on the Home screen.

Tap the + in the bottom-left corner for a new message.

Type a contacts name or number in the 'To' box.

Matching contacts that appear can be tapped to add them.

Write your message in the 'Add text' box, then press the right arrow when you're ready to send it.

Sending attachments & multimedia messages (MMS)

You can add pictures, videos and other stuff to your message, but it turns them into MMS messages that cost money. Check with your network about charges first.

Write your text, then before pressing send, tap the paperclip. Choose what type of attachment you want.

Choose whether you want to take a new photo, or pick one from the ones you've got already.

Find and tap the item(s) you want to add.

They'll be added to your message, and you'll see a preview above the text. Press the right arrow when you're ready to send.

Deleting a message thread

A message 'thread' is just a list of the messages between you and someone else, like a conversation.

3. Sending emails

Figuring out how to send emails might seem tricky, but we've covered what you need to know in these steps.

Sending an email

You'll need to have your email account set up before you can start. Don't worry if you haven't done it yet, our Setup Guide can help.

Open your Inbox, then press the + in the bottom-right corner.

Type the persons name or email address in the 'To' box.

Add a Subject to the 'subject' box if you want.

Write your message in the white box that's left. When you're finished, press the right arrow at the top to send it.

4. Setting alarms

You'll be able to stay on time and remember your important appointments when you've learned how to set alarms.

Go to Apps > Clock to find the alarms

Make sure the 'Alarm' tab is chosen at the top, then press the + in the top-right corner.

Slide the numbers until it shows the time you want the alarm setting for.

Tap Repeat and choose the days you want the same alarm to go off.

When you've picked, press Done and the alarm will be set.
