Kit Guide: HTC U Play - using it

Getting to know how to use a new phone can be confusing, so we've written this guide to help you familiarise yourself with it.

1. Making phone calls

You'll probably want to start making calls with your new phone, so these steps will help you out with it.

Open the phone app by pressing the phone icon on the Home screen. When you've done it, there's a few ways you can make calls.

  • The app will open to the dial pad. Here you can type in a mobile number if you know it, then just press Call.
  • If you've added any favourite contacts, you can find them by tapping Favourites at the top.
  • You can also scroll through your contacts and call them directly. Press People at the top to see the list.

2. Sending texts & multimedia messages (MMS)

Texting is a quick and easy way to get messages to other people, but if you've never done it before, it might seem confusing. These simple steps will have you texting in no time.

Sending texts

On the Home screen, press the Messaging icon (it's the two speech bubbles).

Type the person's name or mobile number in the 'To' box at the top.

Tap the 'Add text' box and write your message. When you've finished, press the right arrow to send it.

Sending attachments & multimedia messages (MMS)

If you want to add more to your message, like a picture or video, these steps will help. MMS messages are usually chargeable, so if you're not sure whether they're included in your allowance, it's worth checking with your network.

Write your message, then press the paperclip on the left, instead of send.

Choose Camera to take a new picture, or Gallery to look through the ones you've already got.

Scroll through and tap the one you want to add.

You'll see a preview of it added to your text. Press the right arrow to send it when you're happy with it.

Deleting a message thread

A message 'thread' is the conversation between you and someone else. Open your messaging inbox and find the thread you want to get rid of.

Press and hold on their name, then tap Delete in the menu. There's no way to undo it, so make sure you really want to delete them.

3. Sending emails

You'll need to have your email account set up to be able to start sending messages from it. You might not have done it yet, so if you need some help with it, you can use our Setup Guide.
