If you want to share your Internet connection by using your iPhone 6 as a personal hotspot for your other devices, then setting it up is quick and easy. Simply follow the steps below and you'll be done in no time.
If you're planning on sharing your connection from your iPhone, you will need to make sure tethering is allowed on your network plan. Some networks allow tethering on standard contracts, but others require you to purchase it as an add-on or pay a separate charge. If in doubt, check with your network!
If you have an up-to-date Mac or iPad you can easily use Continuity to enable an 'Instant Hotspot'. For older Apple devices, or any other type of computer, you simply need to enable Personal Hotspot in your iPhone settings.
On your iPhone 6, go into Settings.
Tap on Personal Hotspot.
Turn Personal Hotspot on by tapping the switch.
Make a note of the password, or tap it to choose your own.
Now that you've got the Personal Hotspot turned on, the next step is to connect your device to it.
In most cases you'll either be connecting a Windows PC, a Mac or an iPad or Android tablet. The steps are straightforward, so scroll down and find the type of device you have and then follow the steps.
If you've updated your Mac to Yosemite, or iPad to the latest version of iOS, you'll have a feature called 'Continuity' to enable an Instant Hotspot between your devices - without having to type any passwords.
Simply click the Wi-Fi logo in the top right corner of your Mac, or go to the Wi-Fi settings menu on your iPad.
Once you see the list of available wireless networks, you should see a specific section called Personal Hotspots.
In this section you should see your iPhone 6 listed, so simply select this to launch the Instant Hotspot.
Within a minute or so your Mac or iPad should be connected to your iPhone 6. There's no need to change anything on your iPhone or type any passwords - it should do it all on its own.
If you have an older Mac or iPad that's not running the latest software, you can still easily connect to your iPhone hotspot - but you'll need the password for it!
In the lower right corner of your desktop screen you should have the Wi-Fi symbol – click on this to begin with.
You will then be shown a list of available Wi-Fi networks.
Click on your iPhone in the list.
Type in the Wi-Fi password and press connect.
Like Windows PCs, Android devices – tablets and phonse – all use a very similar connection method:
First open up the Settings on your phone or tablet.
Tap on the Wi-Fi section and make sure Wi-Fi is turned on.
In the list of available Wi-Fi networks that appears, tap on your iPhone 6.
Type in the Wi-Fi password and press Connect.
