Kit Guide: Cleaning a washing machine detergent drawer


If the drawer on your washing machine has got a build-up of detergent in it, you'll need to clean it up to stop clogs forming in the pipes.

Most detergent trays can be taken out just by firmly pulling them, but check your user manual first. If you can't remove the drawer, you can still do some of the cleaning steps below.

Removable drawer


Take out the drawer from, and put it into a sink with hot, soapy water.


Use a sponge or scourer to get rid of any detergent gunk on the drawer.


Rinse the drawer with clean water and leave it to dry.


Wipe the drawer slot on the washing machine using a clean cloth and hot soapy water. If there's any stuck powder scrape this off with a sponge or scourer.


Rinse the slot with a sponge and clean water.


Pop the drawer back in.

Non-removable drawer


Fill the drawer with a bit of hot water.


Clean away any build up with a cloth and clean any stubborn sections with a toothbrush or soft scourer.


Use a sponge to wipe away any liquid and make sure it's dry.
