How to stop food freezing in the fridge

It can be both annoying and inconvenient to keep finding frozen food in your fridge. That's why we've put together these useful tips to stop it happening to you – read on to find out more.

Stopping food from freezing

  • Check the thermostat to make sure it is not set too cold. If your indoor temperature changes a lot during the year, you might need to change the thermostat to match it.
  • Check for any air vents in the fridge and make sure they're not blocked.
  • Make sure there's at least a 10cm gap around all the side and back of the fridge to let warm air escape.
  • Get rid of any frost build-up in the fridge.
  • Clean the condenser coils at the back of the fridge with a vacuum cleaner to get rid of any dirt or dust. You can clean any stubborn dirt away with warm soapy water – but be careful not to scrape the coils.
  • Check that the door is closing properly. Make sure nothing is in the way it or pushing it open and that the seal around the door is tight.
