The filter for your dishwasher is under the bottom rack of the dishwasher, and over time the filter can get clogged up, which stops the water draining properly.
Pull the bottom rack out of the dishwasher.
Unscrew the filter from the bottom floor.
Pour a jug of clean water into the open drain to check that water is going through the pipes. If it's not, there might be a blockage further down the drain, and this'll need a repair.
If the water drains fine, rinse out the filter with warm tap water to remove any build-up of lint, soap particles, food and other gunk.
Screw the cap back into the dishwasher, and put the bottom rack back in.
Test the dishwasher again with a normal wash cycle, if it still doesn't work, arrange a repair with our experts here.
If you have a waste disposal unit next to your sink, it'll normally use the same drainage pipe as a dishwasher. If it gets clogged, it might affect the dishwasher too.
You can try clearing it by pouring a cleaning agent down the drain, through the dishwasher's and waste disposal's filter. Leave it for 24 - 48 hours to try and break down the blockage before testing again.
If there doesn't seem to be anything blocking the water, there might be a fault with your water pump instead. This is the bit of your dishwasher that pumps the water away during a wash, and if it stops working you'll normally find it stops draining.
