Running a virus scan

If your computer has got a 'virus' of any kind, it can start to run sluggishly. Windows 10 comes with a free antivirus software called 'Windows Defender', so here's how to use it to clean things up.

2.

Open the Windows Defender shortcut.

3.

Click Full, then choose Scan now.

4.

When the scan has finished, any problems should have fixed themselves.

Stopping programs from starting automatically

Some programs will start automatically when Windows boots up. Having lots of these programs can slow your computer down, so here's how to sort them out.

1.

Hold down Ctrl, Shift and Esc to open the Task Manager.

2.

Click the Start-up tab at the top.

3.

Have a look through your programs. Any that have 'medium' or 'high' startup will be using the most power. If you can see any that you don't use, click Disable to stop them from starting automatically.

Turning on Fast Startup
