When you try to view a website, one of these error messages will be displayed:

  • 'Proxy Server Isn't Responding'
  • 'Unable to Connect to Proxy Server'

Cause

These messages show that the computer is trying to use a 'proxy server'.

This means that it's  trying to use another computer or website as a middle-man before it loads the site you want to look at.

Follow the steps listed below to fix the problem.

Fix

To stop the errors, you need to disable proxy settings. This fix applies to any computer running Windows 10, 8.1, 8 or 7:

1.

Close any open programs and open the Start menu, type 'internet options' and click it in the list.

2.

Go to the Connections tab, and click LAN settings at the bottom.

3.

Ensure Automatically detect settings is ticked, and Use a proxy server for your LAN is not ticked.

4.

Restart the computer.

After the computer has restarted, web pages should load correctly.
