How to download apps from the Mac App Store


We'll show you how to download apps and games from the App Store to your new Mac.

Finding new apps in the App Store


You'll have to sign in with your Apple ID the first time you use it.

Click the blue App Store icon at the bottom of the screen.


Navigate the different sections of the store using the icons at the top. Click See all on any area of the Store to see more choices.


Click on the name of the app you want to download.


If it's a free app, click Get to download it. If it's a paid-for app, you'll see the price on the blue button - click to buy it.

Click Install App.


Type your Apple ID password to authorise the purchase (even if its free). If you're not already signed in, you'll also need to type your email address.


Click Yes to save the password for downloading other Free Items, or click No to turn this off.


Click the 'Launchpad' icon in the Dock to see your installed apps. You'll also see a progress bar showing you how the new download is going.

When it's finished downloading, click the new app's icon to open it.


Reinstalling old apps


The App Store uses your Apple ID to track your downloads, which makes it easy to install them on any other Macs you use.

Click the icon to open the App Store.


Click Purchased at the top of the screen.


Look through the list of apps you've used in the past, and click Install on the right of any apps you'd like to use again.
