The best place to put your TV depends on how big it is – and this guide will show you the best viewing distances for differently sized TVs.

 

HD TVs

The most popular resolution for HD TVs is 1080p. Different screen sizes have different ideal viewing distances, and these are the most common ones:

  • 32" TV: 51.2" (1.28m) away.
  • 40" TV: 64" (1.6m) away.
  • 43" TV: 68.8" (1.72m) away.
  • 49" TV: 78.4" (1.96m) away.
  • 50" TV: 80" (2m) away.
  • 55" TV: 88" (2.2m) away.
  • 65" TV: 104" (2.6m) away.

 

4K Ultra HD TVs

4K Ultra HD TVs are increasingly popular. These screens have four times more detail, which means you can sit closer to the screen and still see all the detail properly.

  • 40" TV: 48" (1.2m) away.
  • 43" TV: 51.6" (1.29m) away.
  • 49" TV: 58.8" (1.47m) away.
  • 50" TV: 60" (1.5m) away.
  • 55" TV: 66" (1.65m) away.
  • 65" TV: 78" (1.95m) away.
  • 75" TV: 90" (2.25m) away.
  • 78" TV: 93.6" (2.34m) away.
  • 85" TV: 102" (2.55m) away.
